Shah Smith & Associates, Inc. provided the electrical design for this one million sq. ft., 13-story, $438 million Jennie Sealy Replacement Hospital and Clinical Services Wing.
The Jennie Sealy Replacement Hospital has a Day Surgery Unit, Post Anesthesia Care Unit, 20 operating suites including several Hybrid Suites. There are three vascular/cardio-thorasic suites, one liver transplant operating room, and one outpatient/ interventional MRI operating suite with an MRI that can be moved on a rail between two rooms. One of these two rooms is an operating room. The other is an outpatient MRI suite for better utilization.
Each room is outfitted to be used as a standard patient bed or as an intensive care unit room. Offices for hospital administration are on level 2 with an emergency operations center capable of managing a major event (i.e. hurricane) for up to seven days. The building has a single Computerized Tomography (CT) room.
There is a shell floor that can be used as future operating suites or an imaging suite with several MRIs as needed for future use.
In addition, there are 56 intensive care unit rooms, four of which are Bariatric Suites. There are 192 patient rooms with another floor shelled that can add 64 more rooms for a total of 256.
The Clinical Services Wing contains labs that support the hospital. Histology, Cytology, Surgical Pathology, Chemistry, Autopsy, etc. The building contains a kitchen and dining area that supports the hospital and staff. In addition, there is a pharmacy, Central Sterile Processing, loading dock and receiving areas for both buildings, Clinical Engineering Services offices, and gift shop.
