Academic Learning and Teaching Center
University of Texas Health Science Center – San Antonio
The Academic Learning and Teaching Center comprises approximately 80,000 SF of classroom and lecture space, 25,000 SF of anatomy labs, and 20,000 SF of common areas, including food service.
Design includes interconnection with existing campus utilities for steam, chilled water, power, and emergency power. Air systems are manifolded, low face velocity systems with fan arrays in laboratory units. Energy conservation measures include aircuity real time monitoring of both laboratory indoor air quality for air change reset and stack effluent monitoring for stack velocity reduction.
Gross anatomy lab design includes CFD analysis of cadaver outgassing for air change rate optimization and air inlet/outlet choice.
The project was designed under a new “commercial construction” paradigm for shell life of 50 years and system life of 25 years.
