Shah Smith & Associates, Inc. provided mechanical, electrical, and plumbing design engineering services for this Science Building, which consolidates the Colleges of Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Earth Science, and Mathematics Department into one location.
The project consist of offices, research, teaching, and general classrooms for biology, chemistry, physics, and earth science laboratories. The project also included a 130-seat large lecture hall and a Planetarium.
The electrical service consist of a transformer connected to the existing 12 kV underground distribution system and 480Y/277V distribution in the building. K-rated transformers and transient voltage surge suppression is utilized to protect sensitive electronic circuits and equipment.
Variable air volume HVAC systems were provided. The laboratories were provided with lab-trac supply and exhaust systems. Laboratory gases and RO water systems is also offered.
Existing Central Plant expanded to add 1,000 ton chiller and cooling tower cell.
