Ocean and Coastal Studies Building

Shah Smith & Associates, Inc. is providing mechanical, electrical, and plumbing design engineering services for this Science Building.
The building consist of faculty research laboratories with running sea water, phytoplankton culture chambers, temperature controlled bio-laboratories, fish and marine mammal holding tanks, science lecture halls, classrooms, visiting researcher laboratories, and administrative offices. Laboratory spaces are also included for the state programs as the Texas Institute for Oceanography, the Center for Texas Beaches and Shores, the Laboratory for Oceanographic and Environmental Research, and the Texas Department of Health Seafood Safety Laboratory.
In addition to the detailed design of the facility, SSA prepared an MEP program document for the project.
The existing campus central plant is expanded to provide thermal utilities to this facility. This expansion includes the addition of a centrifugal chiller, new cooling tower cell, and associated electrical upgrades to serve the mechanical equipment.
