Terminal “C” at Bush Intercontinental Airport had grown from a Continental Airlines regional facility to a full hub, and passenger demand had increased substantially.  The heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems had experienced considerable increased cooling and heating requirements above the original installed capacities.  The loads were created by additional people, outside air, renovated offices spaces, additional computers, and new concessions, such as food courts and gift shops.  The inability of the air and hydronic systems to serve the increased load had resulted in loss of temperature and humidity control.

Shah Smith & Associates, Inc. provided design engineering services for renovation of HVAC systems for Terminal “C” to meet the anticipated future demands on HVAC systems.

This included confirmation of HVAC cooling and heating loads and the replacement of air handling units, ductwork, diffusers, and pumps and piping through phased construction.
