Student Union Renovation
University of North Texas
The current Student Union was built in the 1960s and last renovated in 1973 when 17,000 students were enrolled. Today, enrollment is greater than 35,000, and the new union built to accommodate a student population of 45,000.
The Student Union Expansion was built with substantial dining and kitchen areas. Shah Smith & Associates, Inc. designed innovative energy efficient HVAC and displacement air systems, including chilled beams for the dining and lobby areas. Important items to note are daylight lighting controls and energy efficient low flow kitchen exhaust hood systems and water cooled refrigeration systems served by heat recovery chillers.
