Agriculture Building No. 5

Texas A&M University

ag-5

Shah Smith & Associates, Inc. provided mechanical, plumbing, and electrical design engineering services for the Agricultural Building #5 on the Texas A&M University campus in College Station.

The new Agricultural building is about 83,100 sq. ft. that will be the new home to the Department of Plant Pathology and Microbiology, bringing them within the Agriculture and Life Sciences Complex.

The Agriculture Building, also known as the Plant Pathology Building, includes flexible open wet and dry lab spaces with associated support spaces, teaching laboratories, offices, large auditorium, greenhouse, and insectary.

SSA exceeded the requirements of the State of Texas Energy Code by utilizing the latest in energy conservation design concepts. The design concepts include air-size economizers, variable air volume air handling units, energy recovery run-around coils on the exhaust air fan systems, and a lab trac control system for the laboratories. These concepts, along with providing low flow fixtures and lighting controls, has helped the Agricultural Building #5 achieve LEED Silver.
