Department of Public Safety Crime Lab Renovation
Texas facilities commission
Shah Smith & Associates, Inc. (SSA) was part of a consulting team led by Texas Facilities Commission (TFC) and was responsible for mechanical, plumbing and fire protection design and construction services. This project was a renovation of the former DPS Crime Lab and conversion to offices, classrooms and workout rooms for DPS.
The mechanical systems were completely renovated. New terminal boxes were installed and connected to the existing air handling unit system. The DDC controls for the area were redesigned, and the existing laboratory exhaust fans were replaced with new fans to serve the weight room, workout rooms and locker rooms. New airflow measuring stations were added to the existing air handling units to control the outside air to the entire building.
The plumbing design consisted of removal of existing laboratory gasses and plumbing systems, and installation of new plumbing systems for the new locker rooms, restrooms and break rooms.
The fire protection and fire alarm system was reworked based upon the new space layouts and change in room classifications.
