The Physical Education and Activity Program (PEAP) Building is a replacement facility for the READ Building. Shah Smith & Associates, Inc. (SSA) provided all MEP engineering design services for the project.
The building is approximately 110,000 GSF and includes the following components:
- Gymnasium with 4 basketball courts. Gym can be reconfigured for volleyball, badmitton, archery, etc.
- Gymnastics room
- Three free-weight rooms
- Bootcamp / sports conditioning room
- Fencing room
- Three special use / classrooms
- Yoga room
- Pilates room
- Ballet room with black box theater for performances
- Social dance room
- Modern Dance room
- Self defense room
- Department offices
- Conference rooms
SSA employed the latest mechanical and electrical design concepts to provide a very energy efficient building to meet the latest requirement of the State of Texas Energy Code and to provide adequate ventillation and temperature to the various exercise rooms.
SSA provided commissioning services for this project; commissioned systems include the pre-treatment air systems, air handling units and systems including variable-air-volume distribution systems, hydronic pumping systems, and building ventilation and pressurization. Also commissioned were the emergency generator and ATS system. SSA provided commissioning test procedures, and directed all commissioning testing, along with deficiency reporting and resolution. The commissioning team worked with the contractors, the test and balance team and building automation team to ensure that the building design and construction met the project program of requirements.
