The Wayne Roberts ’85 Business Building at Texas A&M University is a transformative addition to the Mays Business Education Complex, designed to position Mays Business School as a national leader in business education. Completed in late 2024 and opened in Spring 2025, this 81,400-square-foot, four-story facility serves as the new front door to Mays, enhancing visibility and accessibility on West Campus.

The building was conceived to foster collaboration, innovation, and connectivity, aligning with the evolving needs of students, faculty, and corporate partners. Key features include a three-story atrium for events and recruiting, eight technology-enabled learning studios, flexible collaboration spaces, and the ConocoPhillips Collaboration Plaza, which links the Roberts Building to the existing Wehner Building. Additional amenities such as a café, outdoor patios, and advanced technology infrastructure, including one of Texas’ largest video walls, create a dynamic environment for learning and engagement.

Shah Smith & Associates provided the MEP services for the project. The project site required major utility relocations. SSA worked alongside Gessner Engineering to identify the best routes and minimize campus impacts.

The HVAC system for the project consisted of overhead variable air volume terminals. Terminal box placement was optimized for sound dampening as well as ease of maintenance. All terminal boxes in the project are accessible via an 8-foot ladder. The building was designed with three manifolded AHUs and one pretreatment outside air unit. The air handling units are controlled to stage based on building occupancy.

The electrical service for the building is fed from the campus distribution loop. An underfloor power distribution system was utilized to allow for flexibility for future room modifications.
