Houston Community College Culinary Arts Center is a newly constructed 32,000 sq.ft., LEED Certified, two-story culinary teaching facility. Shah Smith & Associates provided mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineering and commissioning services. The state-of-the-art facility includes baking/cooking labs, classrooms, student lounge areas, conference rooms, reception areas, dining room/bar, dish room and storage receiving.

Mechanical system commissioning included chilled water, heating hot water systems, VAV Air Units, and Split Systems, fume hoods, laboratory exhaust fans, computer room units, condensate recovery unit. SSA also verified the building automation system for specified control sequences, operation, and functionality.

SSA performed commissioning and testing for the emergency generator and emergency and stand-by power systems; also commissioned were lighting control systems.

Commissioning of the plumbing systems included water heating distribution, as well as check-out and functional verification of the building plumbing pumps.

SSA carried out the commissioning process in accordance with LEED requirements, including writing the commissioning plan and specifications, doing design review, coordinating and chairing commissioning meetings, writing up pre-functional checklists and functional test procedures, carrying out field testing, producing Commissioning Issues Logs, and providing all LEED reporting and documentation to earn the Fundamental Commissioning points and Enhanced Commissioning.
